あとで (After)

The grammar of "〜あとで" in Japanese is used to indicate that an action will be done after another action or event. It is similar to saying "after (doing something)" or "later."

V(タ形) + あとで

This pattern is used to express that an action will take place after another action has been completed. It is formed by using the past tense (タ形) of a verb followed by あとで. The action indicated by the verb in the past tense is the first event, and the action that follows, indicated by あとで, is the second event.

For Example:

(tesuto ga owatta ato de, paatii o hirakimasu)

"After the test is over, we will have a party."

(kinou no bangohan o tabeta ato de, ha o migakimasu)

"After eating dinner last night, I brushed my teeth."

(shigoto ga owatta ato de, kaimono ni ikimasu)

"After work, I will go shopping."

(hon o yomi oeta ato de, eiga o miru tsumori desu)

"After finishing reading the book, I plan to watch a movie."

(ame ga yanda ato de, kouen ni ikimashou)

"Let's go to the park after the rain stops."

(jugyou ga owatta ato de, toshokan de benkyou shimasu)

"After class, I will study at the library."

(hirugohan o tabeta ato de, ocha o nomimasu)

"After lunch, I will drink tea."

(undou o shita ato de, shawaa o abimasu)

"After exercising, I will take a shower."

(eiga o mita ato de, kansou o kakimasu)

"After watching the movie, I will write my impressions."

(shiken ga owatta ato de, ryokou ni iku yotei desu)

"After the exam is over, I plan to go on a trip."

N + のあとで

This pattern is used to indicate that one event or action will occur after another noun. It is formed by placing の before あとで. The first noun describes the first event, and the action or event that follows, indicated by あとで, is the second event.

For Example:

(shokuji no ato de, dezaato o tabemasu)

"After the meal, I will eat dessert."

(kaigi no ato de, shiryou o okurimasu)

"After the meeting, I will send the documents."

(ryokou no junbi no ato de, nimotsu o matomemasu)

"After preparing for the trip, I will pack my luggage."

(tesuto no ato de, saiten ga arimasu)

"After the test, there will be grading."

(tanjoubi no ato de, purezento o moraimashita)

"After my birthday, I received a present."

(ooame no ato de, douro ga kansui shimashita)

"After heavy rain, the road was flooded."

(aki no ato de, fuyu ga yattekimasu)

"After autumn, winter comes."

(shigoto no ato de, tomodachi to nomi ni ikimasu)

"After work, I will go out for drinks with friends."

(ryokou no ato de, shashin o seiri shimasu)

"After the trip, I will organize the photos."
